The Payroll Tax Compliance Specialist will collaborate with the Software Development and Senior
Management teams to ensure payroll tax compliance at the federal, state, and local levels. The individual will stay current with federal and state tax regulatory requirements and legislative guidance.
Requirements:
•Ensure the accuracy of the master payroll system.
•Perform master system updates, such as unemployment wage bases, state withholding tax tables, local tax rates, exempt plan code limit updates, minimum wage updates
•Consistently monitor federal and state tax regulatory and legislative guidance
•Work closely with development to update compliance changes, and move updates to main production system
•Participate in testing of various payroll changes, such as withholding tables
•Review, analyze, and interpret complex tax regulations
•Collaborate with Development department
•Attend IRS monthly calls
•Contact IRS or state agencies when compliance information is not available online
•Document any compliance changes
•Maintain / update compliance section of Tax Notebook
•Monitor state and local tax agencies for payment or return specification changes
•Assist development with form mapping
•Responsible for relaying upcoming compliance changes to senior management, development, operations department, and payroll tax department staff
•Attend APA/BNA training sessions and conferences to stay up to date of recent and upcoming -compliance changes, new taxes, and agencies (i.e., PFML)
•Enter issues requiring development intervention in tracker
•Assist in answering questions that come in through CRM from operations
•Prepare weekly compliance change tracking spreadsheet ahead of weekly compliance meeting
•Contact agencies when payment or return files are unable to be submitted successfully, and development is unable to resolve
•Responsible for full compliance research when adding a new tax agency
Qualifications:
•2+ years’ experience in payroll tax compliance at the federal, state, and local levels
•Proven ability to proactively research new payroll tax regulations
•Ability to review, analyze, and interpret complex tax regulations
•Cross functional team player who can communicate with technical and non-technical teams
•Well organized with high level of accuracy and attention to detail
•Proficient in excel
•Proactive and creative in proposing improvements to processes and procedure
CP Payroll believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of this role's hiring range is $66,000 - 79,000. The actual salary will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s education, training, experience, location, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, all CP Payroll team members receive equity and participate in an annual bonus plan ($2,500 target), based on company and individual performance.
